Editor: Here we have an untitled print by Brice Marden. It's a study in black and white stripes, with a textured border. It gives me such a severe, almost architectural feeling. What do you see in this piece? Curator: Architectural is a great word for it! To me, it whispers of doorways, or perhaps a minimalist take on classical columns. It also feels deeply personal – the imperfections in the printmaking, those little flecks, hint at the artist's hand, don't they? It’s as if he’s inviting us into his own internal structure. What do you think of that notion? Editor: I love the idea of it being a doorway into his personal space. It definitely makes me reconsider my initial feeling of severity. Curator: Art does that, doesn’t it? It’s a constant shifting of perspectives, a chance to explore the world, and ourselves, in new ways.
