Editor: So, this is Dennis Feldman's "TV (Edward Kernan) West Haven, CT 1971", a black and white photograph. It's a rather mundane scene, almost sterile. What do you make of it? Curator: I'm interested in how Feldman is presenting the materials of everyday life. The TV itself, a ubiquitous object, is elevated almost like a still life. Consider the labor involved in manufacturing these objects, and the social context of their consumption. Editor: It's interesting to think of it that way. I was just seeing a picture of a room. Curator: Exactly! He is drawing attention to our relationship with these manufactured goods. What does it mean to frame them this way? Editor: I guess it makes you think about how much our lives revolve around these objects. Thanks, that's a perspective shift!
