This satirical print, "Lodewijk XIV valt ziek neer na het eten van harde Spaanse noten" ("Louis XIV falls ill after eating hard Spanish nuts"), is a Dutch example of the popular genre of political satire. The print depicts Louis XIV as the King of France, collapsed and surrounded by figures representing France's declining state. It is unknown who created the print, but the fact that it was published in 1706, during a period of intense conflict between France and the Netherlands, implies the print was intended to ridicule the French King and his rule. The print is housed at the Rijksmuseum, a popular museum for Dutch history and art in Amsterdam.
