Naum Gabo made this intriguing construction, Red Cavern, using perspex, wood and metal to create something between sculpture and painting. I love how the warm red glow seems to come from within, almost like a beating heart or a hidden world. The way Gabo layers the materials is key. It’s not just about shapes and colors, but how they interact, casting shadows and creating new forms as you move around the piece. Look at how the different planes of the perspex create depth, it’s like peering into an alternate dimension, right? It reminds me of some of Moholy-Nagy’s constructions, but there's a warmer, more human feel here, it shows how art is always in conversation. Gabo’s piece isn't about giving you one answer, but inviting you to ask questions, and revel in the delightful possibilities of seeing and thinking.
