This untitled artwork was made by Paul Feeley with paint on canvas. What strikes me is the relationship between the colors, a kind of dance, red and blue. It's like watching shapes in conversation, a call and response. I get the feeling that the surface is smooth and slightly shiny. I imagine Feeley was pushing the paint around, enjoying its texture and its possibilities. The way the colors sit next to each other, so clean and precise, makes me think of someone who is really considering the possibilities of their medium, as well as, the history of geometric abstraction. Look at that blue circle over there. Isn't it incredible how such a simple form can hold so much weight? I think of Hilma af Klint when I look at Feeley's work, but also Ellsworth Kelly. It reminds me that art is a constant dialogue, with artists responding to each other across time. It's all up for grabs, meaning and feeling.
