This is Charlotte Sperber's watercolour rendering of a jar. I love the way the grey body of the jar almost disappears into the paper, with just the right amount of subtle shading, while the cobalt blue floral decoration pops. It's as if the artist is conjuring an object out of pure, watery pigment. I wonder what Sperber was thinking about as she painted it. Was she dreaming of summer gardens, or perhaps lost in the simple pleasure of watching the colours bleed and blend on the page? I feel a connection with her, and the pleasure she must have felt in that quiet act of observation. Maybe it was like a painterly meditation—a conversation between eye, hand, and the quiet stillness of a jar. It's kind of a dance! Artists are always riffing off each other like this, across time, sharing a visual language that's all about seeing and feeling the world in new ways.
