Achraf Baznani made "My World", and it's a small photograph, only 30 x 30 cm. It's all about the strange encounter that can happen in art. The sepia tones give a feeling of nostalgia. It's like looking at an old photo, but the scene is completely surreal. A man sits atop a globe, as if the world is his personal perch. The texture is smooth, almost dreamlike, which enhances the unreal quality. Look at how the figure seems pensive, gazing off into the distance. The tiny figure on the massive globe can be seen as the individual in relation to the world. Are they lost in thought or in search of something? It reminds me a little bit of Magritte, with its play on scale and reality. Both artists invite us to question our perception and find new perspectives in the everyday. Ultimately, art is about asking questions rather than providing easy answers.
