Editor: Here we have Achraf Baznani's photograph "The Inevitable End". I’m immediately struck by its dreamlike quality, this man stepping between what look like… tree stumps? And a flock of birds soaring above him. How do you read this image? Curator: Oh, this photograph sings to me. I sense that this lone figure on his precarious stepping stones is maybe ourselves. The light in this shot has this wonderful hazy, timeless quality that I find almost unsettling. A dream perhaps of anxieties we all grapple with... What might those birds overhead symbolize to you, I wonder? Editor: Freedom, maybe? Or escape? The "inevitable end" seems daunting, but they’re heading… somewhere. Curator: Exactly! To me, Baznani uses this journey across the gaps, this dance with what's to come to remind us about perspective, that even in the face of uncertainty, the future—our personal 'inevitable end'—isn't some void, but holds potential. The soft focus on those far-off shapes evokes a sense of something not yet realised, something forming on the horizon of the mind. It really lets your imagination do some gymnastics, doesn't it? Editor: Definitely makes you think! I was so focused on the man and the logs, I almost missed the bigger picture. Curator: That's the beautiful tension, isn’t it? We often narrow our focus on these immediate challenges or on our own footing as we navigate life. And then something like this photo whispers, "Hey, don't forget the sky! And those far-off possibilities”. Editor: This has definitely changed my perspective. Now I'm seeing more than just an inevitable end...it’s more like a journey toward one. Thanks! Curator: My pleasure! Art is a mirror to ourselves, really. What a delightful looking glass Baznani has given us today!
