Owen Gent made this image, Ostensibly Dark Brain – Dr. Alex Koefman, using layered colors to hint at the complexity of the human mind. It's cool how the overlapping silhouettes create a sense of depth, like peeling back layers of thought. I’m drawn to how the different colors bleed into one another. The edges aren't sharp; they're fuzzy, suggesting the fluidity of ideas and the way thoughts can be ambiguous and ever-changing. The black silhouette in the center acts as an anchor, a grounded presence amid the swirl of colors. The process is visible, the artist lets the hand be known through the soft blending. It reminds me a little of Elizabeth Murray's playful approach to form. Like Murray, Gent uses abstraction to get at something deeply human. The piece isn't trying to give answers. It's more about raising questions and embracing the mystery of what it means to be human.
