Chul Hyun Ahn created "Void Platform", an immersive installation which invites a visceral and profound experience, using light, mirrors, and glass. Ahn came of age in South Korea during a time of rapid technological advancement and social change, influences that permeate his work, which often deals with perception and illusion. Stepping onto the platform, one confronts an ambiguous space; the solid ground beneath dissolves into what feels like an infinite abyss. This sensation is a potent metaphor, particularly relevant in our current era of digital oversaturation. The reflections evoke ideas about identity, and how the self is multiplied, distorted, and sometimes lost amidst the endless streams of information and images. Ahn has described his work as being about creating a sense of boundlessness and questioning the limits of human perception. But in its creation of an illusionary space, "Void Platform" also hints at deeper emotional themes of anxiety, uncertainty, and the search for solid ground in an ever-changing world.
