Kaloust Guedel made "#00283" with layers of bold, flat colors sealed in plastic, each like a little painting experiment. This work feels deeply process-oriented, almost like a record of color studies or material tests. The surface is super interesting – these glossy plastic sleeves, some crinkled and reflecting light, others clear and flat, totally change the way we read the colors underneath. The orange, for example, is intense and immediate, while the green below seems to shift and vibrate, almost like a landscape viewed through a rain-streaked window. There’s also this sense of containment, like each color is preserved in its own little world, but still part of the larger conversation. Take a look at the way Guedel has numbered this piece in the top corner. This element reminds me a little of Blinky Palermo's methodical approach to color, but with a slightly chaotic edge. Both artists remind us that art is an ongoing exploration, full of surprises and new ways of seeing.
