This evening coat, made by C. G. Gunther's Sons, it’s all about texture, the way different materials play off each other. It really gets you thinking about what it means to make something with your hands. Up close, the velvet feels so lush, and the fur, well, it’s a whole other level of sensory overload. I’m drawn to how the light catches the pile of the velvet, creating these shifting patterns, almost like the brushstrokes in a painting. The floral motif, subtle and dark against a shimmering ground, makes me think of how artists build up layers to create depth and complexity. It reminds me of those Gustav Klimt paintings, where he mixed patterns and textures. Ultimately, this coat is like a conversation between materials, a dialogue between maker and wearer, and a reminder that art can be something you wear.
