This is a page of Annotaties, notes jotted down by George Hendrik Breitner in pen or pencil on paper. These materials, cheap and readily available, are not like the costly pigments and canvas of a formal painting. The network of lines creates a sense of immediacy, of ideas caught in the flow of daily life. It speaks to Breitner’s working method, capturing fleeting impressions. It doesn't seem to be an artwork in the traditional sense, but more an insight into the artist's mind. The act of writing itself becomes a means of processing the world. The annotations hint at the labor of artistic production, from the mundane task of noting addresses to more abstract musings. By elevating these humble materials and processes, Breitner blurs the line between art and life, inviting us to see the beauty and significance in the everyday.
