Oleg Holosiy made "The Adventure of the Pink Kangaroo," with paint, of course, that's clear! You can feel its shifts and changes. See how the kangaroo is suspended in the air, floating in a hazy, golden light. I love how Holosiy has left the evidence of his process right there on the canvas. He’s not hiding anything. Look at the layers of paint and the expressive brushstrokes – you get the sense that he's figuring out the image as he goes. It’s all about the push and pull between intention and accident, wouldn’t you say? The green is slathered all over the canvas, like he’s trying to make sense of the world while he’s painting. Gestures like the repeated strokes to create the ground vegetation express movement and feeling, making us feel the kangaroo’s adventure too. Painters are always in conversation with each other, and Holosiy is no exception. His pink kangaroo might be in dialogue with Yves Klein’s blue monochromes or even the vibrant colors of Matisse. Each one of these paintings is a space for ambiguity, and an invitation to see the world in a new way.
