Oleg Holosiy made The Adventure of the Pink Kangaroo with paint, but when, where, why, nobody really knows. It’s like a half-remembered dream, all in murky greens and browns except for this strange, glowing kangaroo floating in the sky. The paint is applied in these loose, almost violent strokes, especially in the foreground figures. They're huddled together, or maybe fighting, it's hard to tell. Holosiy wasn't trying to be neat or precise, which I love. It feels like he was wrestling with the image, letting the process guide him. Look at the way the green paint is scrubbed onto the surface, creating this textured, almost distressed effect. I see a kinship with artists like Leon Golub, who also used rough surfaces and unsettling imagery to create a sense of unease. But where Golub is all about power and violence, Holosiy has this weird, dreamlike quality. Ultimately, it’s this ambiguity that makes the work so compelling. There's no single interpretation, just a feeling, a mood, a sense of something strange and unknown.
