Tent hanging c. 19th century

This anonymous 19th-century "Tent Hanging" is a woven textile with a complex geometric design of repeating patterns and abstract motifs in a limited color palette of black, red, blue, and white on a natural, off-white ground. The piece is particularly interesting for its use of different weave techniques and the unique combination of stylized floral and geometric designs. It's a testament to the skill and artistry of unknown weavers in creating decorative and practical objects for everyday use. This piece is currently housed at the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
