"Astyanax ontdekt door Odysseus" (Astyanax Discovered by Odysseus), created by Samuel Bernard between 1627 and 1655, depicts a dramatic scene from Homer's Iliad. The artwork shows the moment when the Greek hero Odysseus discovers the infant son of Hector, Astyanax, hidden in a chest, and the scene is full of tension as the Greeks approach and a woman kneels in distress. The scene, full of classical architecture and figures, provides a glimpse into the historical interpretation of the epic poem. The print, held at the Rijksmuseum, measures 389 mm in height and 522 mm in width.
