Editor: This is David Gentleman's drawing of Gordale Scar. It feels very monumental, like a stage for some kind of primal drama. What do you see in this piece that I might be missing? Curator: I see a powerful commentary on humanity's relationship with the natural world. Consider how landscape art has historically been used to assert dominance over nature, to claim ownership. Does Gentleman subvert that tradition here? Editor: How so? Curator: By emphasizing the overwhelming scale and raw power of the Scar. We are invited to consider our place within such spaces. Are we conquerors or simply small parts of a larger whole? What political narratives are embedded in the land itself? Editor: I didn't think about it that way, but it really changes how I see the drawing. Thanks! Curator: My pleasure! It's about questioning whose story gets told, and how.
