This is one of Andy Warhol's Skull prints, and it's a trip, right? It's all about flat, bold colors and that signature graphic style, like a high-fashion comic book. Look at that gray skull, screened onto the canvas. It's got these scribbled lines and filled-in shadows. It's so simple, but it's also got this weird depth to it. Like, it's flat, but it's also got volume. Warhol was a master of making things look easy, but it's all about the choices he makes: the colors, the lines, the composition. That pink blob behind the skull, for example – it's like a cloud, but it's also totally artificial. It's like he's saying, "Hey, death can be beautiful, too," or something like that. It reminds me a little of Sigmar Polke, who was also playing with pop imagery and messing with our heads. Art's a funny thing, isn't it?
