This is the "Driehonderdjarige relatie Nederland-Curacao 1934" medal, made by Jacob Jan van Goor. It’s a bronze piece, and the way the light catches the metal, you can almost feel the artist's hand at work, pushing and shaping the material. It's a celebration, or maybe a commemoration, and you can see how van Goor uses the texture to bring the portrait of Wilhelmina to life. The details are amazing. If you zoom in, you can see the way he’s handled the metal around her face, the subtle play of light and shadow. It gives her a real presence. And there’s something so tactile about it, you know? It makes you want to reach out and touch it, to feel the weight and the smoothness of the metal. It reminds me of the work of someone like Jan Toorop, another Dutch artist who was really interested in texture and form. Ultimately, this medal it's a reminder that art is always in conversation, always building on what came before.
