Gustav Klimt made 'Pear Tree' with oil on canvas, and it's now here at the Busch-Reisinger Museum. The whole painting is made up of dabs and dashes of colour, it's kind of like a mosaic of paint. Klimt wasn't trying to trick you into thinking this was a photograph, it's more like a collection of impressions. I love the way the little yellow pears pop out. You've got this wall of green and brown, and then, bam, little bursts of yellow joy. It's not about perfection. It's about a feeling, like a warm day in late summer when the fruit is ripe. And those tree trunks! They're not just brown, but they're full of purples and greens. It reminds me of Van Gogh, who also wasn't afraid to put every colour he could find into a tree. Art is just a conversation, isn't it?
