Gustav Klimt made "Park" with oil paint, though we don't know exactly when. Look at how Klimt built up the surface! He’s dabbling here, right? Small marks, compulsive, almost mosaic-like. It’s like he’s weaving the air itself. You get the feeling that the painting wasn't so much painted, as grown organically, the way trees grow. I want to get close and inspect how the colour dances. Those tiny strokes of greens and yellows and blues. It’s a symphony of hues that shimmers and vibrates, alive! The way the light filters through leaves, the feeling of being enveloped in nature’s embrace. Then you pull back, and it resolves into a unified field, an atmosphere. I'm reminded of the later pointillist landscapes by Pissarro. Ultimately, Klimt's "Park" doesn't give us answers, but instead invites us to wander in a world of endless possibilities.
