Curator: Arturo Herrera’s large-scale work, "Want," in the Tate collection, immediately evokes a feeling of unexpected presence. What's your take on it? Editor: It feels…incomplete. Like a shadow yearning to fully materialize, a fragment disconnected from a larger narrative. Curator: Considering Herrera's background, his engagement with collage, found materials, and even the socio-political context of his artistic practice, it's less about pure abstraction, and more about re-contextualizing existing cultural symbols. Editor: Maybe it is about the absence, the desire for something more than meets the eye. It is stark, yes, but it also whispers possibilities, inviting viewers to project their own stories onto its vastness. Curator: Exactly, and that projection is precisely what Herrera encourages, acknowledging the viewer's role in the artwork's completion, its cultural relevance. Editor: Well, it certainly leaves you wanting, doesn't it? I guess the title fits!
