Blue is linked to the heavens, to spirituality, to the infinite. But look closer at how Roerich applies the watercolor. The peaks are almost geometric. This stylized representation echoes ancient iconographic traditions. Roerich’s paintings acted as visual mantras, intending to instill certain cultural values to encourage viewers toward a deeper understanding of universal harmony. Does it trigger something in you? Editor: I can definitely see that, the way they almost stack up into the distance. And the hazy style definitely hints at that, since the exactness of shapes and dimensions are replaced with a symbolic form of them. Is that why the exact year the piece was made is missing? It wasn't about specificity of date. Curator: Indeed! Time almost becomes irrelevant in the face of such eternal forms.
