Paulo Tercio painted "Prince JB" on a large canvas using a dark, warm palette that feels both intimate and slightly unsettling. I love the way he’s built up the figure from the darkness. It's a slow reveal, like something emerging from a dream. Up close, you can see the texture of the paint, how it’s been layered to create this sense of depth and luminosity. Notice the juxtaposition of the smooth face and the textured body. And those incredible eyes at the bottom, peering out at us from the shadows, are they animal? Human? It's this ambiguity that really grabs me. Tercio’s work reminds me a bit of Francis Bacon, in its raw intensity, but there's also a tenderness here, a vulnerability that feels very personal. Ultimately, "Prince JB" is an invitation to slow down, to look closely, and to embrace the mystery.
