Julio Le Parc made this relief in his ongoing experiment with modular form. The regular black and white stripes are so mesmerizing they can almost feel dizzying. Like a minimalist painting, these rigid lines aren’t just about optical games. Look closer, there’s more here than meets the eye. Notice the slight variations in each stripe and how the light hits and reflects off the surface of the piece. The play of light gives the piece its dynamic quality. It's not just about seeing, but experiencing a kind of vibration. It's a testament to the idea that simplicity can be incredibly complex. Le Parc really pushes the boundaries of perception here, making us question the very nature of what we see, which reminds me a lot of Bridget Riley's work. Both artists play with perception and question the assumptions of our understanding. It's art as an ongoing conversation, a continual inquiry into the possibilities of what art can do and be.
