Cup plate c. 1830

This small, clear glass plate, dating back to circa 1830, is a fine example of pressed glass. The plate features a central starburst surrounded by a repeating, stylized floral motif. The rim of the plate is decorated with a pattern of diamonds and stylized leaves. It is an example of early American pressed glass production, which was a popular and affordable way to produce decorative tableware. This "Cup Plate" is part of the permanent collection of The Art Institute of Chicago.
