This page from "Art - Goût - Beauté" was made in November 1928 using printmaking. You know, the way the simple lines create these fashionable women and the interior space makes me think about how the image was constructed. It's all about the layering, isn't it? Look at how the different planes and textures of the fabrics are rendered with such sparse marks! The artist has made some simple and elegant lines, giving us just enough information to imagine the weight and drape of the fabric. I’m drawn to the pale yellow, almost cream, palette. It feels muted and reserved, yet hints at light and shadow, giving depth to the scene. See how it creates these subtle differences in tone? It’s all about process, each layer informing the next. The composition reminds me of some of David Hockney's set design work, like he's arranging figures in a stage set. Both artists share a playful and experimental approach to rendering space and form through color and line. It's just an ongoing conversation, this art thing. And of course, there's no one 'right' way to look at it!
