This strange, ambiguous form was sculpted by Louise Bourgeois. I see a landscape in it—a soft, maybe even edible one. Something geological has been remade in pliable flesh tones. It could be a weirdly shaped mountain. The texture looks porous, like it might give way under your fingertips. Bourgeois played with the tension between the organic and the constructed. What do you think she was thinking? Maybe she wanted to make something both familiar and alien, evoking a sense of being grounded but also adrift? It’s very tactile and earthy, like a piece of the world reworked. She was an interesting artist - I find her work inspiring. She had a way of making her work deeply personal, but also universal. I hope it inspires you, too.
