Ralph Goings made "Two Chocolate" with oil on canvas. You know, sometimes I think about the bravery of painters. Here, Goings is really looking. There’s a real love for the way light bounces off these glazed donuts – how it shines and pools and creates these little glowing highlights. It makes me want to reach out and touch the surface, even though I know it's just paint. I can imagine him, squinting, brush in hand, trying to capture the way the chocolate sort of melts into the dough. And the way the colors shift and change, from that deep, rich brown to the lighter, almost golden tones. You can almost smell the sweetness, right? He's part of a lineage of artists looking, figuring out, and sharing what they’ve seen, with us all. The whole thing is a reminder that painting is a deeply embodied expression. It’s about staying open to uncertainty and embracing the multiple ways a thing can be seen and understood.
