Janet Fish made this painting, “Peaches,” sometime in the 70s, using oil paint. Look at the way she builds up the color! It's not just about matching what she sees, but about layering colors to create depth and that feeling of a peach, you know? The paint’s pretty thick, especially where the light hits the peaches. It almost feels like you could reach out and touch them, feel their fuzzy skin through that plastic wrap. And the way she handles the transparency of the plastic—thin, washy strokes that let the colors underneath peek through—it’s really something. Notice how each peach has its own personality, some are more red, some are more yellow and how the artist pays attention to the label stuck to the top left peach, even down to the price, this isn't just a still life, its a portrait of consumerism! Fish reminds me a bit of Wayne Thiebaud, especially how he paints cakes and pies, making everyday things seem almost monumental. But Fish brings her own twist, a focus on light and color that makes you see the world in a new way. It's like she's saying, "Hey, look at this! Isn't it amazing?"
