This silver medal, created in 1748 by Martin Holtzhey, commemorates the Peace of Aix-la-Chapelle, a treaty that ended the War of the Austrian Succession. The obverse shows a portrait of the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles VII, in profile. The reverse depicts the goddess Astraea holding a scale and a branch of olive, a symbol of peace, while a lion, representing the Holy Roman Empire, sits beneath her. The Latin inscription translates to “May this star give good centuries to the ruler.” This medal serves as a reminder of the significance of the treaty and its lasting impact on European history.
