This painting by Ramirez Villamizar is made up of horizontal bars and blocks in shades of blue, green, and black. I see him working, carefully building up these geometric forms, tweaking the curves and edges, maybe thinking about musical notations, like an abstract score. I wonder if he was listening to anything while he painted? I imagine he was trying to achieve balance and harmony between the hard edges and the soft, organic shapes. The colors vibrate against each other, creating a sense of movement and depth. It reminds me of other Venezuelan geometric abstractionists like Carlos Cruz-Diez. But in this one, there’s something else going on too. A push-pull between precision and playfulness. It's this tension that makes the painting so engaging. These artists are all in conversation across time, each influencing and responding to the ideas of the others, pushing the boundaries of what painting can be.
