Curator: Christopher Le Brun created this untitled etching. The rough surface suggests an urban landscape. Editor: It feels heavy, almost oppressive. A sense of looming darkness, or maybe just London weather. Curator: The use of etching allows for a very specific kind of mark-making, directly related to the pressure and duration of acid on the metal plate. Editor: It's interesting how the vertical strokes seem to both define and dissolve the architectural forms. Like the city is simultaneously rising and crumbling. Curator: Le Brun is known for his exploration of Romantic themes, and the materiality here definitely evokes that sense of sublime decay and industrial grit. Editor: I keep wanting to find a story in it, something hidden in those shadows. Curator: Exactly, the beauty lies in that tension. Editor: So much inferred. I like it.
