Victor Vasarely made this painting, Koska-Lum, with layers of cool blues and greens, arranged in a grid that feels like it’s both popping out and receding into the distance. I can imagine him carefully plotting each square, thinking hard about how to trick the eye, how to make something flat seem so dimensional. It makes me think about other artists playing with perspective, like Bridget Riley, but there’s also something architectural about it, like a blueprint for a building that doesn’t quite exist. It’s not just about the colors, but the way they interact and create this sense of movement. That subtle shift from one shade of blue to another feels like breathing, slowly expanding and contracting. You know, painting is like this ongoing conversation, right? Each artist riffing off another, taking ideas and pushing them in new directions. Vasarely was doing his thing and someone else will come along and do something completely different, but you can still see that echo, that connection. It's a beautiful thought.
