This porcelain figure of a man with a turkey was made by the Königliche Porzellan Manufaktur, and well, it's really something, isn't it? There's a smooth, almost creamy quality to the porcelain, and the colours are subtle, like they've been mixed with a bit of milk. Look at how the man is stepping on the turkey. It's kind of brutal, but also kind of funny. The stripes on his shorts and the polka dots on his hat are so neat and precise compared to the slightly awkward pose. It’s all so deliberate, and the way the gold leaf reflects the light makes you think this wasn't just made for utility, but for show. It’s like a little stage set. This piece reminds me a bit of some of Picasso's ceramic work – that same sense of playfulness and willingness to throw different elements together. Art's all about conversations, after all. And there's no right way to read them.
