Benoit Maire's 'Sticker Beings' uses found objects, display mechanisms, and printed matter to create an installation. I get the sense Maire is interested in exploring the processes of display, mediation, and the relationships between objects. The clear shelving unit is like a skeleton, exposing its contents rather than concealing them, which puts you in the mindset of observing the ingredients of an artwork. The materials themselves are so interesting: a wooden shelf, a pear, cardboard boxes, print outs, these are brought together on or next to transparent acrylic surfaces, almost like a mood board. There's a TV screen showing a film still laid on the floor like its nothing special, while behind it, on the wall, two panels show large dye prints. The whole installation is in a state of becoming, an invitation into the studio of Benoit Maire, reminiscent of the work of Isa Genzken, who similarly combined and presented seemingly unrelated objects. It resists any fixed meaning, instead, it opens up a space for seeing the world anew.
