Eckart Hahn made this painting, Campfire. Look at the rooster's comb, bright red, and that vibrant rope, yellow. Hahn layers paint to build up the images and uses color to make the rooster and rope jump out from the darkness. I get the feeling Hahn felt really into the color itself as a material. It seems like he knows the history of painting. He's in conversation with centuries of artists. Imagine what it might have been like to create this work! What might Hahn have been thinking? The dark background makes me feel a bit somber, but then that rope gives me a little spark, you know? Like a campfire. So, maybe it's about finding light even when things are dark. But, ultimately, it doesn't matter if you agree with me. The painting belongs to everyone now. Isn’t painting amazing? It can hold so many different ideas.
