Eckart Hahn painted "Flower", sometime after 1971, using oil paint on canvas. It's as meticulous as a botanical illustration, but way more surreal. I find myself wondering, is it about control, or is it about chaos? The texture is so smooth it's almost unsettling, with a surface that feels closer to a photograph. Every twist and turn of the rope is rendered with such precision. Then there's that little bird perched right on top, totally at ease. It almost feels like the rope is growing, like a weird, nautical plant. Hahn reminds me a bit of Magritte, but with a touch of the absurd. It's like he's inviting us to question what we see, and how we see it. And isn't that what art is all about? Exploring the world through a new lens.
