David Michael Hinnebusch made "Hear Me" with bold brushstrokes and a lively palette that vibrates between hot pinks, earthy greens, and stark blacks. I can almost see him wrestling with this canvas, pushing and pulling the paint, letting the image emerge through layers of intuition. I imagine Hinnebusch in his studio, maybe a little messy, definitely full of energy. He’s diving into the act of painting itself, not just depicting something, but really feeling the material. Look at how he’s used those greens, thick and almost aggressive, like he’s slashing at the canvas, then those thin washes of pink. It’s all about the push and pull, the give and take. That central figure, outlined in bright pink, could be anyone – a memory, a feeling, a question. It reminds me of some of the German Expressionists, like Kirchner, in the way it uses color to evoke emotion. Artists are always talking to each other across time, borrowing, stealing, and transforming ideas. What do you hear when you look at this painting? What does it make you feel?
