This drawing of a doorway was made by Jerome Hoxie. Isn’t it funny how a doorway can be so…well, door-y? I mean, it's just a way in or out, right? But Hoxie really makes you look at it, like he's saying, “Hey, check out this doorway! Really LOOK at it!” The hatching of the lines that make up the image feel so deliberate, so controlled. I can almost see him there, carefully rendering each plane and angle, lost in the intricate details. What was he thinking about as he made this? Was he admiring the architecture, or perhaps contemplating the lives that passed through that very doorway? There's something deeply satisfying in the precision of the drawing. It reminds me that art isn't just about wild expression, it’s about quiet observation and a love for the simple, everyday things that make up our world.
