"Het zonlicht daalt, lief, leerzaam, stil (...)" is a 19th-century Dutch children's picture book by Albertus Willem Sijthoff. The work, now in the Rijksmuseum, features nine illustrated panels, each depicting a scene from Dutch children's literature. These scenes are accompanied by rhyming Dutch verses. The work exemplifies the genre of children's picture books, common in 19th-century Europe. The images feature simple linework and washes of color, characteristic of the period. The artist's use of bright, eye-catching colors and simple illustrations would have appealed to a young audience. Sijthoff's illustrations capture the charm and innocence of childhood in a traditional Dutch style. The work, part of a series titled "Nieuwe Hollandsche Kinderprenten," provides a glimpse into 19th-century Dutch children's literature and printmaking.
