"Jan gaat naar school, om wat te leeren [(...)]" is a collection of 1861 - 1929 educational prints for children by Dutch artist Albertus Willem Sijthoff (1829-1913). The piece features eight vignettes depicting Dutch children in various situations, each with a corresponding rhyme in Dutch. These prints are designed to teach children about their lives, values, and morality through simple rhymes and relatable imagery, which is indicative of the "Neue Hollandsche Kinderpraten" (New Dutch Children's Prints) series. This particular print, which is currently housed in the Rijksmuseum, showcases Sijthoff's skills in creating simple, yet expressive black and white illustrations, and highlights the importance of education and morality for children during this period.
