This is a textile design by Sonia Delaunay, made of gouache on paper. I love the way Delaunay uses flat, bold circles here. There’s a kind of cheerful energy, almost like confetti frozen in time. The surface has a beautiful, tactile quality. It’s not just about the colors but how they sit together - the opaque reds and yellows popping against the softer, almost translucent greys. Notice the edges of the circles. They’re not perfect, which gives the whole thing a handmade feel. It’s like she’s inviting us into the process, showing us the imperfections that make it real. Delaunay was all about bringing art into everyday life, and you can see that here. You could imagine this pattern on fabric, moving and flowing. It reminds me of Anni Albers' weaving, that spirit of experimentation and a willingness to blur the lines between art, craft and design. It’s this openness that makes art so exciting, right?
