Rupprecht Geiger made this, OE 275, and it's like looking into the heart of a sunset. I wonder what Geiger was thinking, playing with these bold blocks of color? The red, it's not just one shade, it's a whole family, bleeding into that moody, almost bruised, dark band. And then, bam! That little blue rectangle. It’s like a tiny, cool thought in a field of fiery emotion. It reminds me how we painters, we’re always chatting with each other across time. Barnett Newman, Rothko, they were all wrestling with these big color fields, trying to make them sing. Geiger’s got his own voice here, though. It’s like he’s saying, "Yeah, color can be a feeling, but it can also be a question." I love that he leaves room for both.
