Editor: This is Esq Tom Phillips' "Canto XXIII: [no title]". It's a striking image! The figure seems to be emerging from or sinking into this dark, almost theatrical landscape. What do you see in this piece? Curator: I see Phillips wrestling with Dante's inferno through a contemporary lens, specifically the media. Notice the screen-like box at the top. It asks us to consider who controls truth in an age of misinformation. Who gets to tell the story, and how does that shape our understanding of reality, especially when considering social justice? Editor: So, it's about power and narrative control? Curator: Precisely. It questions how dominant narratives can obscure lived experiences and perpetuate inequality. It makes you think about whose voices are amplified and whose are silenced. Editor: I never thought about it like that, but that connection to contemporary media is powerful. Curator: Absolutely, and it encourages critical engagement with the information we consume daily.
