Edvard Munch made this title page for his book Alpha and Omega with lithographic ink on paper. It’s all about the line here, right? Raw and scratchy and, oh boy, is it loaded with feeling. Check out the head floating beneath the title—it's scrawled, kind of anxious, and totally captivating. The texture gives it a life of its own, doesn’t it? The thing about lithography is how direct it is; you’re drawing right onto the stone, so it feels like you’re right there with Munch, seeing his hand move, his thoughts take shape. It’s kind of like automatic writing or drawing, where you just let it flow. You know who else had that kind of raw, expressive line? Maybe someone like Cy Twombly. Both of them knew how to make a line feel like a whole universe of emotion. Isn’t it amazing how something so simple can say so much?
