Marie Luttrell made this drawing of a foot warmer at some point, and from what I can see, it looks like she used graphite and watercolor. I can't help but get drawn into the details here, the kind of meticulous mark-making that speaks to a real love for the process. The heart motif punched into the sides of the warmer has a beautiful, almost obsessive quality. The way she renders the metallic surface, not quite silver, not quite grey, but something in between. She allows the light to play across the surface. It's all about the texture, the feel of the metal. It's a very intimate kind of attention, reminding me of those drawings by Marsden Hartley. Luttrell invites us into a quiet, contemplative space, where the act of seeing becomes a form of knowing. It’s more than just a foot warmer; it’s a container of care, rendered with love.
