Editor: This is Jean Jacques de Boissieu's "Spinner," an undated etching. It has such a casual, everyday feel. I'm curious, what stands out to you? Curator: Notice the labor involved: the spinner, the dilapidated building, even the etching process itself. The image romanticizes rural life, but the materials and production tell a different story, of work and consumption. What do you make of the barrel makers and their product? Editor: That's interesting, I didn't consider the cooperage as a kind of...labor story. I will look closer at it. Thank you. Curator: Think about how it contextualizes the other processes, and how the print itself is a commodity.
