Here we see "Black Anatomy," by Alexander Calder who was an artist of the 20th century, made with ink on paper. I love Calder's touch here; it's so direct and playful, like he’s drawing with a wink. The ink is laid down with such confidence. Look at the black lines, how they vary in thickness and intensity. You can see the hand moving, deciding. Then there's that pop of orange, a total surprise amidst the monochrome. It’s like Calder is revealing a secret code, maybe even a secret language of forms. The spiral shape in the upper left is super interesting too. It's so simple but holds a whole world of energy, like a little vortex pulling you in. This idea of capturing movement and balance, it's central to what Calder does. It reminds me of Joan Miro's playful spirit, but with a uniquely Calder twist. There's definitely a conversation happening between these artists, a reminder that art's always evolving, always in motion.
