"Vrouw knipt de teennagels van haar meesteres" (Woman Cutting the Toenails of her Mistress) is an anonymous etching from the Dutch Golden Age, dating back to between 1630 and 1700. Now housed in the Rijksmuseum, the print depicts a domestic scene, with a seated, elegant woman, adorned with jewelry, having her toenails clipped by a kneeling servant. The etching’s detailed lines and contrasts of light and dark create a realistic portrayal of the figures and the surrounding landscape, characteristic of the Dutch Golden Age.
